Larapinta Welsh Mountain Ponies

Welcome to the Larapinta stud website

The stud was founded in 1989 with our first mare Whitcot Opera follwed by Standwell Lady B Good.  Both had colt foals, L Maybe and L Pianissiomo.  Both were shown on in the early years but sold on as ridden ponies.  Deciding on which way to go with the breeding, in 1993 we bought Barnell Saffron by Brierdene Toryn.  Her first foal by Springbourne Caraway, a colt, was sold on for driving but it was her next foal in 1998 by Forlan Honey Buzzard that whet our appetite for the line we were to follow.  L Oystercatcher was to put us on the map, and it was a trip to Brian and Betty at the Forlan Stud that sealed our passage.  Forlan Tia Maria was in foal to Fronbach Hello Dandy and produced a filly (after so many colts!) Larapinta Teal who was born in 1998.   Both were shown as youngsters, Teal was broken to ride at 3 and  went on loan with June and Beth Bevan in Wales for 3 years where she achieved 2nd at the Royal Welsh first ridden with her excellent little jockey Rosie.  Ronnie was shown as a foal with much success but it was in 2003 that saw our first medal with a homebred pony when Ronnie won at Market Bosworth Show - he went on to take the M & M Championship and the Supreme Championship - now that was a day to remember!

Kevin and I are now breeding the ponies we enjoy.  Quality ponies that excel in any sphere from riding to driving.  All have the action and temperament that we find invaluable in our breeding plans.  We wish the new owners of all our offspring good luck for continued success.

Please take a look around the website, and leave us a message - we hope you enjoy the ponies as much as we do.
